It was introduced on February 21, 2002 at the Photo Marketing Association Annual Convention and Trade Show as a direct competitor to the Canon EOS D60. With a price of US$1,999 for the body only in the United States, it was the second 6-megapixel DSLR to break the $2000 barrier, after the EOS D60.
The D100 was Nikon's first amateur DSLR, introduced way back in 2002. It was replaced by the improved D70 in 2004 and the D70s in 2005.
The D100 features sophisticated digital image control technology; exclusive, high-performance Nikon features such as 3-D matrix metering; five-area dynamic autofocus with focus tracking and lock-on; plus, the convenience and performance of a new built-in Speedlight which features D-TTL flash control capability.
The Nikon D100 does not provide live-view. You have two options for using this camera with Dragonframe: Use a separate video camera or USB camera to provide live video.
2005. With its six megapixel (3008x2000) sensor, the D100 (later supplemented by the D70) was Nikon's highest resolution camera until the 12.4 megapixel flagship model D2X was announced in September 2004. The D100 was available until the summer of 2005, or so, when it was silently discontinued.
